New PS3/Xbox 360 game stars Snake after 9-year coma
Metal Gear Solid game series designer Hideo Kojima revealed at a panel at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco on Wednesday that a Metal Gear Solid V game is in development. Kojima also showed a trailer for the new game, which will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The game, whose full title is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, was originally revealed as just "The Phantom Pain" in a trailer during Spike TV's Video Game Awards in December. At that time, Kojima had not been officially revealed as being a part of the project.
Kojima noted during the GDC panel that The Phantom Pain plus the in-development title Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes together make up Metal Gear Solid V.Kojima revealed that the game features Snake after he wakes up from a nine-year coma. Snake has lost a lot of his abilities, and must crawl through a hospital to escape. After Snake escapes from the hospital in the game, he can then walk around the game's world openly. The game will use Kojima Productions' new Fox Engine. Kojima will again produce and direct the title.
Kojima also discussed Fox Engine and its rendering capabilities during the panel.
Update: Replaced video with official video from Konami.
Update 2: Kojima clarified on his Twitter account on Wednesday that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V, and will take place nine years before Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latter of which he called the "main game." Kojima also showed a gameplay demo during the GDC panel from the opening sequence of The Phantom Pain game.
