Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Unveiled - Open World Game Set in the Metal Gear Universe

Open-World Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Unveiled (Report via IGN.com)

It seems the Metal Gear game fans have been waiting for has been finally announced at Konami's Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

The unveiling consisted of a real-time demo, but at this stage all English language reports about what was shown have come through Twitter. Guests were reportedly asked not to post about what they were seeing, but many did so anyway. While some posts were deleted within minutes, the picture that emerged is that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is an open-world game and was reportedly demoed on a current-gen PC.

It's also running on the new FOX Engine and has left those at the event amazed.

@kazamatsuri said, "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes demo was truly amazing, running on a PC at current-gen specs. Wow."

@markmacd tweeted, "Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING," followed by "Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere... Wow."

@ItCameFromJapan chimed in with more details, saying, "Ground Zeroes on Fox Engine - rich detail, open world, and Old Snake is back!"

It is not known when Konami will reveal the Ground Zeroes to the rest of the world.

Earlier this week, during the latest Kojima Productions podcast, Kojima Productions' Chris Johns claimed announcements made at the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event would "shake" the industry.

Metal Gear Solid Gets Live-Action Hollywood Film [News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

Columbia Pictures, Avid Arad to produce; Sony Pictures Entertainment to produce/distribute
[News via AnimeNewsNetwork]

A live-action Hollywood film adaptation of Konami's Metal Gear Solid game franchise was announced during the ”Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Party” event on Thursday. Columbia Pictures will produce the film, and Sony Pictures Entertainment will produce and distribute. Avi Arad (Spider-Man films) is serving as the producer.
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima said that he was looking for a partner who can make a film adaptation a reality for many years. He added that Arad is the one to do it, "without a doubt." Arad came to Japan to appear at the event, and he promised to make a wonderful film with a spirit faithful to the original games made by Kojima.
Arad has been prominent in Hollywood industry circles as a major producer behind the Marvel Studios film franchises such as X-Men, Spider-Man, and Iron Man. Arad is still involved in the Marvel films, but he resigned as the head of Marvel Studios to form his own production company in 2006.
Arad has been involved in Dreamworks' planned live-action adaptation of Masamune Shirow's science-fiction manga Ghost in the Shell. He was installed as a chair of Production I.G., LLC., the American affiliate of Ghost in the Shell's anime studio Production I.G, in 2010. He also co-created The Innocent series in the digital anthology Yen Plus last year.
